Meditation Monday

The start of something new

Every Monday morning (GMT) we meet in circle for some gentle Healing Through Writing.

To begin each circle, we chat for a few minutes and often share how we are arriving. Because the invitation is to show up as we are, all masks are off. We are instantly surrounded by fellow chronic illness warriors who ‘get’ it. This means that the conversation often runs deep. Insights are shared, feelings are acknowledged, big questions are asked.

“Amber, when you say show up as you are, you really mean it.” - Sarah

It is a sacred and held space. This means that there is no fixing, no rescuing and no judgement of any kind. We welcome one another as we are.

To open the space, we light 3 candles. This morning we lit one candle for speaking our truth, another for our ability to root and rise and the 3rd for the boundaries we might need to set to enable that to happen.

This intentional act sets the scene for the grounding meditation that follows. even though it is only for a few minutes, settling into the space together in this way has a deep and powerful impact.

In our Wednesday lunchtime (GMT) session the other week, it was suggested that I might record the soothing and grounding element of the circle. This way I can share them for all of us here to dip in and out of throughout the day/week that follows.

Beautifully, it aligns with my intention to create a space here that has a sanctuary feel to it. So that we can come here for respite as well as insight, community and story sharing.

In this morning’s meditation, we sat with 3 enquiries of a gentle nature:

How do I feel in my body today?

What does my body need?

What is one thing I can do today to support how I feel?

The answer each of us received was rest! To which

asked the big question “what kind of rest?”

For me, it was soul-nourishing rest. I am not yet sure what that will look like throughout my day but I do know that it will involve a phone detox later this week as I move into winter week of my menstrual cycle.

I’d love to hear what comes up for you during this meditative practice, how you find the experience and any insights you’d like to share.
