In this morning’s Healing Through Writing circle, we lit a candle in honour of resting, releasing and remembering.
Wait – doesn’t that slow things down!?
When we take time to rest, to release, to remember, doesn’t that waste time?
Aren’t we raking up the past that way? Covering old ground instead of moving full steam ahead??
Rest. Release. Remember.
It can feel like slowing down when all we want to do is speed up.
But these are not delays, they are alignments.
They are what make our next step true.
It might sound counterintuitive, logically speaking. But when it comes to taking back the reins, we need to steer the chariot in the direction it is we want to go.
Sure, we can move full steam ahead but without making sure we’re ready and well-guided, without freeing up space and lightening the load, without remembering who we are or where we’re going, then how much movement can we expect and in which direction are we headed?
We want to move from aimless and flailing to empowered and intentional.
Taking back the reins with confidence.
Feeling masterful.
With visibility of the road ahead. Or at least some of the path. Safe in the knowledge that we are going in the right direction.
