I'm really sorry it's inappropriate but I laughed at the part that you were so drunk you lost your phone. Each one of us had the wake up call at some point. I never liked the taste of alcohol (it's bitter to me) and the effect on my body (feeling intoxicated), so it was easier for me to ditch it altogether cold turkey early 2023. As for coffee, I did it as I wrote in my post, not really out of health benefits, but sometimes it feels good to know we've crossed off something from the harmful list.
I’m so glad that made you laugh😆 I was hideously drunk. Thankfully safe but legless.
A lot of the changes I made weren’t directly benefiting my health straight away but it was about the long term goals and the fact that I was shocked into realising how important health is and how it’s all that really matters.
I actually had to go off caffeine - any of it - cold turkey! About 10 years ago I started to get anxiety leading to panic attacks, which is so not me. This went on for a few months and my doc was already considering putting me on drugs. Then I went on a business trip and had to get up at 4 am. I had coffee and cola all day. When I talked to my husband in the evening, he said, "Darling, you're speaking really fast!" And then we understood, it must have been all the caffeine. Combining l-thyroxine and caffeine for Hashimoto's can rarely cause anxiety, according to documented cases. Within days, I was back to normal and never had a panic attack again. Now I simply drink decaf without any problems at all.
I am lucky - my favourite coffee place serves decaff coffee, so I always order my latte „without anything“, as I am also highly lactose intolerant. The owner knows me, but not all of her staff, so we always have a good laugh about their puzzled faces. 😂
This was really interesting- thank you for sharing. I’d love to know more about the anti-inflammatory way of eating… I think that could be helpful for us as a family.
I really struggle not to have coffee too… I can feel it has a big effect on my body, even just 1/2 cups a day. It’s not really the taste though, I think it’s the ritual - the slowly making myself a warm drink - I’ve managed to find other things to swap it with on an evening but am still working on that morning one!
That’s amazing you’ve swapped it on an evening. I found the same at home, I now make plenty of curry tea, have a new morning drink & recently bought myself some fancy loose leaf herbal teas as a treat. It’s def a nice warming ritual to have.
I’ll write a blog on anti-inflammatory way of eating, I bet I can share some good insights x
Wow! I am 100% addicted to caffeine, but its funny that I was able to stop and felt my body telling me to stop for both my pregnancies. And I've never thought to look at the link between caffeine and my tension headaches because I often find caffeine helps with those... but what if caffeine is actually the underlying cause of those?! As in what if caffeine withdrawal could be a cause, or even anxiety caused by the caffeine? I'll have to definitely start keeping a food and drink log as there is a lot consider here! Especially around the anxiety for me... Thanks for suggesting these links between drinks and health!
It’s food for thought isn’t it! Caffeine can be both pain relief and a trigger. Caffeine addiction/withdrawal definitely affects my feelings and my feelings definitely impact my health x
Wow Amber. So so incredible! I’ve defo got a caffeine (coffee) addiction and I’m kinda ok with it. Bizarrely I gave it up completely in both pregnancies. I think the Dandy Brew is the closest thing I could prob give it up for but reading this id like to journal into why I’ve had it every single morning since my teens... Thankyou for sharing ✨ 📖 ☕️

Oh my gosh, that’s incredible insight. I ended up back on caffeine again after writing this🙃
Off it now to the extent of daily intake but still enjoying my lattes when I’m out!
