At my worst I did a gluten free diet, but we’ve got to be careful making this change. Not to think gluten free products are healthy (as they’re designed for celiacs and can just be junk food without gluten). That w not cutting a whole food group as that will have nutrients we need.
Since then I paid a dietician and I’ve learnt it’s not the gluten that causes the inflammation but the type of grain and how it’s processed. Sour dough and whole grains are great for the body and aren’t inflammatory if you consume it within a diet full of veg. Even changing the grain from wheat to things like rye for added nutritional value!
These are such a good points! I’ve realised in typing this that the whole thing needs rewriting before it goes in my book. To include all these points. I’m hoping (trusting) they’re already in my 5 part series and I can condense them into one piece.
The only items I ever bought from the gluten free isle were Be Free bread (sugar free as well as gluten free), porridge and Naked bars. They were the only items I could find without sugar as every other item has them in.
I remember doing sugar free February when I was living in Barcelona with colleague. It was then when I realised that EVERYTHING has sugar in it! I mean why do tinned tomatoes 🥫 need sugar?!? The dangerous ones are things that taste savoury but packed with sugar. Trying to find sugar free drinks I ended up drinking tonic water, it’s jammers with sugar, if I remember rightly more than your fantas and that. But it doesn’t taste as sweet!
I’m not sure sugar free, shit free, drinks exist do they!?! I’ve always stuck with water though do have the occasional lime and soda.
I’ve heard of people adding sugar to bolognese before! It’s something to do with sweetening the tomatoes!?! But I always knew I needed less not more so left it out. You’ve got to take care with those tins, they can be so sneaky!
Yeah, a tomato can sometimes need a sweetness to balance the taste… But some tomatoes are super sweet, especially in season. If I did get bitter tomatoes I’d sweeten with honey if needs be. But to be honest I don’t feel the need to do that now my diet is so low sugar, everything tastes so much sweeter!
I drink fizzy water, it’s my ‘feels like a special drink, kinda, if you put ice 🧊 and lemon 🍋 in it’ drink.
Here in Spain Coca-Cola has bought out EVERYWHERE, you can only get Fanta lemon, Fanta orange, coke (sometimes the sugar free, but what crap are they putting in instead or diet-whatever diet means) and that’s it!
I used it like Appletiser, it’s got sugar, at least it’s from fruit, albeit in high quantities.
I like a lime 🍋🟩 and soda or an elderflower cordialtoo. It’s got sugar in but it feels better and less fake… especially the latter, lime has a bit of a luminous colour to it haha.
