Sorry, I jumped ahead! E would have to stand for everyday because I have them everyday and I can’t stop taking care of myself or it will get even worse.

Love that you jumped ahead! So many acronyms we could relate to with this one.

Taking care of ourselves, even amidst the hideousness of the every day is soooooo challenging and can even feel impossible at times. Sometimes it’s hard to see that it can even get worse than it is and yet it can 🤯

How do you take care of yourself during these days and how does that differ to how you looked after yourself before?

For me, it was very different and a big wake up call to realise I wasn’t before, not properly, and I had to learn to do it from a disabled state. I’m thankful now, for the lessons but my goodness, what a hard way to learn them.

I have an entire Migraine Safety Plan that my husband and I came up with after i fell down my stairs during a Hemiplegic Migraine attack and bruised some ribs. Until that point, it had only been about dealing with the pain. After that, safety became more important.

Wowzers. Yes something we so easily often overlook. Safety is so important. Physical safety, feeling safe in our body’s.

It’s beyond hard to look beyond the pain when it’s so severe/debilitating. I didn’t realise there was a whole other level of disability beyond the pain until I started researching it. identifying more and more symptoms that can feel like they pale into insignificance yet can be just as disabling as the pain itself - or in the case of hemiplegic - potentially dangerous.

So glad to hear you have the onboard support of your husband alongside you.

“I put my health first - always” would he a great mantra for me but also triggers me massively as I know that I don't yet!

Thanks for reminding me how triggering this work can be and for being honest about it.

Even if it’s not first, you strike me as someone who does prioritise their health though? It def features somewhere in your day to day.

I guess what I didn’t mention in this was that it didn’t features as a priority at all in my life before I found myself no longer able to function. So in some respects, it had to become first to enable me to find my way through that. The alternative way being, to stay that way.

Maybe there are occasions where it doesn’t need to/cant be first. For example, there may be times where a baby needs to come first in order to survive.

There is so much nuance to it I guess.

I’d love to know how you get on with it as a mantra. How that feels over the coming weeks, months.

I really appreciate you breaking down your journey through the letters of this acronym. Maybe “e” stands for every day?

I'd def be interested to hear which resonate for you and if you'd add/takeaway any of your own. Good guess but that's not it! It's about Eating foods that reduce inflammation. But really it's not just about eating foods to do that but finding creative ways to reduce inflammation in our body overall.

I feel like that will be a very powerful quote for the leg of the journey that you are currently on! Back in 2018, it was a very unlikely quote for me, I couldn't make sense of it - I had no idea what it meant - and yet there it was in my massive album of quotes I eventually put in an album on my phone. I only get what it means just now!

That's a great guess! And I will have to make sure that is in some way covered in there because recognising what depletes our energy is super important - alongside taking ownership of where we invest it!
