Warrior weekly – adventure abounds
Procrastination no more, the book is being written and balance is restored.
Monday – intentionally slow morning after big weekend away. Work started at lunchtime with walking Milo, holiday nails and toes in the aft for a client I haven’t seen for a long while. Bodywork at 5pm before tea at R’s mums and later night home.
Tuesday – ahhh, my retreat day! If ever I needed to be reminded of this worthy investment in myself - the shift, the change, the transformation – all in one dedicated time and space every few weeks. Drove down in silence to kick-start the day. A challenge that came with a tiny amount of resistance. I found myself not wanting to do it. It felt a little uncomfortable to be alone with my whirring mind. Had to remind myself that this aligns with my vision of full health and vibrant energy and is a practice I set an intention to introduce last month. Glad I followed it through.
To ease in and connect with my body, I did some brain cleansing breathwork, took a breath into every body part starting with each toe. Connection made with the gorgeous trees alongside the tarmacked straight line of the motorway. In the quiet and stillness, a couple of inspired ideas came through. Arrived safe and sound, straight into off-loading with Mairi my latest personal endeavour – overcoming procrastination. We thrashed it out, got to the bottom of the why and rebuilt back up from there before my bodywork treatment. Immediately after I wrote a poem I share with you at the end.
Ending the day with a recorded discussion on the topic of taking a holistic approach to healing migraine – tune in and listen to it here.
Stopped off at Jubilee Woods on the way home. I’d past it on the way there and took myself on a little adventure around a forest I’d never been to before. I did a kind of labyrinth walk which was meditative, insightful and a great way to end my day’s retreat before I headed home.
Wednesday – online check in and yoga practice cancelled at the last minute. Opening up space to introduce my new writing ritual and writing a section of my book on the journey I’ve taken with migraine. Ever since submission of my winning book proposal in March, I haven’t done a great deal. IT moved from needing time to recover and top back up on all my energies to the eventual point of procrastination. I’ve booked to go on the London Writers Workshop end October and can write a small section each day which would see the book complete by then.
Fortnightly bodywork client in the afternoon.
Head subtly not so good – very subtle. Went to bed for an hour to meditate and snooze before tea out. Been eating out a lot lately, not making the wisest of choices and starting to feel it. Think this’ll be my last time out in a while.
Thursday – listened to a podcast yesterday by Sarupa Shah that shared a statistic on podcasters abandoning their series 9 episodes in. Guess who’s on number 9? The sheer act of not wanting to be another statistic fired up so much momentum I shared episode 10 after writing another section of my book by mid-morning. I’m finding doing them more enjoyable and becoming more natural. I have migraine warriors wanting to be interviewed and stories that we can share here – insights and value to be gained and a way to continue the healing happening around the world. I’m yet to finish off the healing acronym HEADACHE so hope to be on with that in the new week ahead. I know a few of you were listening, learning and making changes on the back of it. If you’d like to consider recording a chat with me about your journey, reach out and let me know. It’ll be relaxed, informal and with a background in interviewing I should be pretty good at steering the conversation and easing any nerves, if, like me, you have them.
5pm bodywork with a new client returning from the other week. Noticeable improvement from one shoulder. He’s sleeping much better and has been making changes aligned with what he really wants. This guy means business and I look forward to seeing where he takes his healing journey.
Friday – a trip to my sisters to look after the kids for the day. We walked Amaya to football club, Rory found it tricky to make a decision on what he wanted to do. He couldn’t tell whether he wanted to go to the woods, to the park or to the café. So I asked him what he actually wanted to do. He wanted to go home and get the littler picker, come back to the sports club and pick up all the litter! We filled a full sack before heading back. Went to visit my friend’s mum who’s been very unwell, made her day. Wrote some more of my book before tea at R’s mums, infrared sauna and cold plunge pool for the first time. I felt so grounded afterwards!
Saturday – Sleepover!! Me an R went to pick up my niece and nephew to bring them back to mine whilst mummy and daddy went to a wedding in Leeds. They had a sleepover at the hotel and we all had a sleepover here in my holiday home, where a live. “It’s like a free holiday” the kids said. Took them on a 2 hour adventure and explore around the lakes, found a selenite crystal and wore the kids and 4 month old puppy, Buddy, out. Amaya conducted a wedding ceremony to marry me and R in the afternoon and allowed us a honeymoon. There was colouring in, smoothie making and blackberry picking on our 2nd walk of the day before bed.
Sunday – Amazed that the pup stayed quiet with no accidents until 6:30am. Took him out for an early walk then back for breakfast before we all went out together again. This time to the magical adventures of the forest where we saw the chickens, the snake rock path and the wooden horse. Mum and dad returned feeling tender after a brilliant day and they all set off home to watch the women’s football finals.
The weather’s terrific so it’s been an afternoon on the balcony before heading to R’s new home to clean it from all the tiling and snags that’s been done, ready for carpets fitting tomorrow.
Here is the poem I wrote earlier in the week:
“Let the Light In”
Needs expressed
Comfort found
Connection made
Message received
Light floods in
Gentle touch
Soft caress
Healing deeply
Mountain of strength
In my jaw
Hips rocked gently
Soothing sounds
Pitter patter of rain
Bright sun
Tropical
Tips and tricks
Words flow
Another message
Niggles subside
Hot stones
Energy movement
Again and again
Depths explored
Like never before
Space held
Beautifully
Love flows
Tears fall
Balance restored
Gift received
All is well.
