Did you know that during my darkest days and most bleak and desperate of times that I retrained to help others to help myself?
I’ve written a section on this to go in my book, Migraine & Me (hopeful for it’s publishing next year).
I know the avid readers amongst you will know that I offer game-changing Retreat With Me experiences from my holiday home in Crowle (North Lincs) as well the most heart-felt and deeply healing treatments,
But did you know I work with male clients too?
Not that it’s a biggie.
The most important factor – irrespective of sex/identity – is that clients feel safe to relax. And that I feel safe to relax too.
For healing to happen, it’s essential your nervous system can downregulate into rest and digest mode. Healing will not happen in flight or fight.
One reason it seems worth mentioning that I work with men as well as women, whether or not they identify as he/she/they, is that it can *sometimes* be assumed that Retreat With Me experiences are for women only. Or that I would only work with women. And I get that some therapists, space holders and mentors do, but ever since I trained as a bodywork therapist 2 years ago, I’ve attracted and worked with male clients since.
A couple of months ago, a new client came to visit me at the idyllic 7 Lakes Country Park.
He came to “Bring Back the Balance” and heal deeply with deeply restorative bodywork to end the day.
An unexpected PTSD diagnosis had triggered a huge emotional reaction in him.
The impression I got was that this guy had hit his sh*t. And now it was time to turn that sh*t into fertiliser.
Fast forward a couple of months and he returned last week for a top up bodywork session.
“You’ve sorted my shoulder. I’ve been in the gym with no issues. Now I can lift the same weight on both sides.”
A few days later, I received a message confirming still no issues.
“Works easier.
Gyms easier.
Bounced out of bed this morning” !!!
At the end the “I owe you big time” got me thinking…
You – as the client – don’t owe me anything.
An energy exchange has already taken place at the time of your treatment/retreat. This energy exchange is most often in the form of money.
Though I am often referred to as a healer, I don’t identify as one.
Although subjective and debatable, I do not see myself as a healer.
You are the healer.
You are the one doing the work.
You are the one rocking up. Showing up.
Doing the work during.
Doing the work post retreat.
In this case, Mark was able to:
- Tune in and connect to his body and breath
- Voice what was coming up for him
- Share how he was feeling
I am finding with clients that are able to connect this deeply, that healing happens much faster and immediate as well as longer term results are experienced.
Mark went away and implemented the following changes:
- Cut down on alcohol
- Quit sugar
- Upped his breathwork
So sure, I hold space for healing to happen during your time with me.
I’m damn good at that.
Sure, I tune in with you and guide you towards stepping into your own inner power, inner strength and inner wisdom. Hello inner warrior…
But, have you any idea
- How much bravery and courage is required?
To bring your full self to see me.
- How easy it is to let outside things get in the way?
Of making space FOR YOU.
- How challenging it can be to dedicate time and money to your health and healing in a world that sends you in the opposite direction?
The work that I do.
The services that I offer.
This is for the warrior.
The warrior that lies within.
The warrior that exists inside every one of us.
The warrior that’s awoken.
The warrior that’s unleashed.
Or at least ready to be unleashed.
The warrior that’s hell bent on finding freedom.
A freedom from the known.
Bravely and courageously stepping into the UNknown.
This is where you will find yourself.
This is where you will find healing.
I can’t do that for you.
You do that for yourself.
